   Save Nevada Students was created by students and friends who rightly see that we cannot stand by quietly and let, not only the education system, but all the state of Nevada be harmed for future generations by Gov. Gibbons’ proposed drastic cuts to higher education.

   These folks have also created a Facebook Group called “The Nevada Higher Education Budget Cuts are threatening my future.”

   I joined this group because I sincerely believe Gibbons outrageous proposed budget is threatening my future. This is not because I am a student or a part of faculty – but because I am a Nevada entrepreneur and an investor in high tech businesses.

   It is a simple fact: we will not be able grow new companies here without an educated workforce. With the economy the way it is now, making sure that all Nevadans have access to the training they need has never been more critical.

   Furthermore, university research can translate into job opportunities that allow more of our brightest graduates to stay in the state. Finally, spending to develop a talented, skilled workforce is of critical importance in diversifying our state’s economy and attracting globally competitive businesses that will employ our hardworking citizens of all ages.

   Now, more than ever, we must invest in our future – not emasculate it. These drastic cuts are wrong for so many reasons and must be stopped.
